Asking if he is not the slightest bit tempted to come surprise them, saying that if Orpheus does not have power over him [with a musical quotation from Gluck's opera], if he is deaf to Orpheus's plea, then she has nothing more to say to him, noting that they expect the return of some people from a tour of Mont Blanc who, after a two-day rest, go on to Biarritz, adding that, not knowing exactly where he is, she is sending the letter to Sally; in a postscript she writes, in English: "Sara my dear, do make up your mind and decide to come!" On p. 1 she has drawn two doors, one labelled "D'abord," with "libre" written on it, the other labelled "Ensuite," with "occupé" written on it.
